What’s in a name?

The I Ching, or Book of Changes, is a 3,000-year-old Chinese text widely acknowledged as the basis for Eastern philosophy and religion. Chapter 48 of the I Ching refers to “the well,” which symbolizes the always-replenishing yet never-changing attainment of knowledge.

The well sits at the center of a village. Everything around it may change, yet the well remains constant. It can get murky when disturbed, but when calm it is cool and clarifying. Likewise, the person who attends to the well does best to help others find calm clarity, because it’s through this clarity that we achieve the most for ourselves and others.
